Third Party Extensions
- Third Party Extensions written for previous versions of SQL Developer will not work in version 4.0 until Third Party vendor updates extension for OSGI framework. Instructions can be found here
JDK Support
- Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 release supports java version 1.7 and above
- If SQL Developer cannot find a local JDK, you will be prompted to enter the location path for the JDK. Note that the prompt wants only the folder, not the java.exe. For example C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_25
Version Control
- Subversion and GIT are installed by default with SQL Developer 4.0. To install CVS, Perforce and Serena Dimensions, please use Help > Check for Updates
JDBC Drivers
- The JDBC drivers shipped are Oracle Database 11g Release 2. To use JDBC Thick Driver, you need to install an 11g Release 2 client
Installing or Upgrading
- All new releases of SQL Developer require a full installation. Download and unzip the file into an empty folder. Ensure the "Use folder names" checkbox is checked when unzipping the file
TimesTen and In-Memory Database Cache
- Support for TimesTen In-Memory Database includes support for Oracle In-Memory Database Cache and TimesTen In-Memory Database Release 11.2.1.4 and later
- You will not see the TimesTen Connection node unless you have TimesTen installed and configured. More detail on TimesTen can be found on OTN and the TimesTen Release Notes
