Web: A number of changes that will help your SEO efforts:
- Better handling of graduated fills mean smaller file sizes, and that means faster websites - a definite plus factor in Google ranking. And you’ll benefit from faster preview and publish times too.

Page Design
Sticky Objects
These are objects that you can 'stick' in place as the page scrolls underneath. A good example is the NavBar which you can stick to the top of the page as viewers scroll down, so they can still easily navigate to other pages without having to scroll back up to the top. In v11 any object can be stuck to any position on the page, or the left of right edge of the browser window.

You can now 'stick' objects such as social networking buttons, NavBars or footers, so they remain in view as the page is scrolled up and down
New Animation Possibilities
A new Web Animation dialog introduces powerful and easy to use new animation capabilities. You can now set up objects to:
Animate on mouseover
Animate on reveal ie when the object first comes into view or a trigger object comes into view. So for example you can set objects to slide or fade into view as you scroll down a page
Animate on click (or tap on a touch device)
What's more there are some eye catching new animation types for mouseover and click such as wobble and bounce.

Stretchy Backgrounds
Website designs with no obvious page boundary are now very popular, and in this sort of design you'll commonly see a page background that covers the entire browser window and stretches to fill the browser width. In Web Designer 11 you can make any rectangle or image stretch to fill the browser window, either horizontally or vertically.

Text Handling Enhancements
Auto-correct / abbreviation expansion. Create your own list of abbreviations that will be automatically expanded as you type, so for example XWD could be expanded to Xara Web Designer as you type. It's great for symbols too - for example you might set up yen to render ¥
Auto-creation of links when you type a URL so for example typing xara.com will automatically create a link to the Xara site
A text background color option so you can easily highlight words
An easy way to replace one font with another throughout a document (especially useful for replacing missing fonts in imported PDFs)
'Update style to match' option (useful for copying styles from another document or applying styles to unstyled documents, particularly imported PDFs)

Accurate export of text with manual kerns
Update of the Font Awesome Symbols (a quick & easy way to insert symbols from the large and growing Font Awesome selection. The full set is displayed via the Insert menu)
Google fonts updated
Fonts will look correct in exported documents where fonts are missing if outlines are embedded (for example from imported PDFs, most of which include embedded character outlines).

Online Editing
Document Sync With Dropbox or GDrive
Web Designer can now sync files via Dropbox and Google Drive. So if you have the same file open on multiple computers, and you make an edit and save the file on one computer, it will be updated in Web Designer on the other computers.
And there's another bonus: Dropbox and Google Drive maintain older versions of your files, and provide easy ways of viewing and reverting back to earlier versions (in Dropbox simply right click on a file and select 'View previous versions'). This is a safe, easy and storage-saving way of maintaining multiple versions of your website files.

Responsive Web Design
- With the surge in popularity of browsing on mobiles and tablets it is becoming essential to create sites that are tailored to the needs of these visitors. Until now the solution has involved creating multiple sites and a good understanding of JavaScript. Web Designer 10 introduces a RWD solution that allows you to create a single file containing variants of your site at different widths, so that you website responds dynamically to the screen size of the viewer, presenting the design most appropriate to their device. And as you’d expect from Web Designer you won’t need to do any coding whatsoever! Put simply you can create multiple variants - eg desktop, tablet, phone - with shared content (eg text, photos, graphics) but with the ability to freely customize the layout of the variants to suit the target device size. The layout of the variants is entirely in your control, ensuring a quality result for mobiles and tablets. Web Designer export s a single HTML file that can dynamically change from one layout to another depending on the screen size of the viewer.
Single Page Supersites
- If you have a small or very focused site and you’re struggling to make it stand out from the crowd, you’re going to love our new concept of souped-up single page sites!
Instead of your website being presented as separate web pages in the traditional way - where you have to click a link to navigate from one page to another - you now have the option to present the whole website as one single, fast scrolling (horizontal or vertical) document using scroll or swipe to navigate. Or you can present pages one at a time in the traditional way, but with the super-slick animated page transitions, triggered by scroll or swipe gestures or clicks.
Page Transitions
- V10 offers significantly improved page transition effects including 3D effects, which are hardware accelerated, super-smooth and completely flicker free. They’re ideal for presentations, but can also be used with great effect for Supersites.
Scale To Fit
- Instead of designing presentation websites for specific screen sizes, the pages will now intelligently and automatically scale to fit any browser size (or you can set them to full-screen). You can use this for websites too, it could be a good option if, like presentations, they are relatively small sites with short pages.
SmartShapes
- An amazingly quick and easy way to create and edit some of the most commonly required shapes – for example speech bubbles, fancy arrows and text panels - with top quality results guaranteed. If you don’t have the time (or skill) to master the drawing tools you’ll no longer need to resort to clipart. Here are some examples from the Smart Shapes library (internet delivered, so more shapes will be added thru the rest of this year) that can be easily customized.

Creating Online Presentations
- The page transitions are a great enhancement for presentations, but there are also a few other minor useability enhancements in the process of creating and viewing steps, plus two aspect ratio ‘empty’ templates (16x10 widescreen and 4:3 traditional screen).

Direct support for Google Fonts & a new Google Font picker
- Every document has the perfect font, so you can never have too many of them. Google has recently shaken up the font world by offering a large and growing collection of fonts for free. We bring that collection right into the font picker with a new Google Fonts section where you can preview and select fonts from the current 600 Google Fonts collection. What’s more, if you import a document with Google fonts then the fonts will be automatically downloaded and installed.
A 'pull' option extends the automatic page resizing and object positioning feature
- Automatic object positioning and smart page resizing was one of the big hits of v8, because it’s such a great time saver; extended the feature so that it works in reverse, automatically adjusting the position of objects and shortening the page when you delete text or objects on the page.
An easy way of re-coloring elements in complex grouped objects & web backgrounds
- There’s a much faster way of changing the individual colors in grouped objects such as clipart, NavBars, buttons and web page backgrounds. When you drag & drop a color onto the group, you’ll see a list of all the colors in the group, simply pick the one you want to change (changing a theme color converts it to a local color).
Drag & drop NavBar replacement
- A really easy way of replacing NavBars in your document with a new NavBar design. Simply drag and drop the new design from the Designs Gallery onto the current NavBar in your document. All features of the existing NavBar such as menus and links are automatically copied.
Improved web page background handling
- Backgrounds behind your web page that fill the whole of the browser window (regardless of how wide the window is or how big your monitor) are all the fashion, whether they are graduated fills or textures or simply headings that stretch across the whole window.
Improved web font embedding
- Xara’s innovative font embedding technology gives you the freedom to use a much wider range of fonts on your website than the traditional limited ‘web safe’ fonts, by embedding fonts in the uploaded site (where license permits); enhanced the export so that the embedded font files are much smaller.

Presentation websites. Create web-based 'slide-show' style presentations that your website visitors can step through using the keyboard arrow keys. New animated transition effects for layers and page links. Xara Web Designer 7 Premium makes it easy to add a wide range of animated effects to the layers and page links in your website. You can add animated transitions to any page link or pop-up layer in your web pages.
Intelligent repeating headers / footers / watermarks. Xara Web Designer 7 Premium now automatically updates all occurrences of a repeating object when you edit it, so you don't have to manually update when you make a change. When one instance of a repeating object is edited, the updates appear instantly on all other instances of that object on other pages of the document. What's more, Xara Web Designer 7 Premium is smart about positioning, so objects in the top half of the page are positioned on other pages relative to the top of the page, and objects near the bottom are positioned relative to the bottom of the page, irrespective of page sizes.

Brand new 'magic snap' for object alignment. Xara Web Designer 7 Premium now provides 'magic' magnetic object snapping. As you drag an object, it 'snaps' to points and lines of interest nearby and indicates what it has snapped to by displaying dynamic snap lines and points. This makes it easy to align objects with each other, or with guidelines or the page center or edges.
Enhanced ease of use. Xara Web Designer 7 Premium galleries now give faster access to the information you need:
A new default Page & Layer Gallery 'pages' mode displays a narrow list of page thumbnails – for easy page selection and access.
Xara Web Designer 7 Premium initially displays an uncluttered single page view. Use the Page & Layer Gallery to quickly move to different pages, or switch to multi-page view by right clicking on the page and selecting the multi-page view option on the menu.
