4Media Apple TV Video Converter is a video converter for the Mac. It allows you to convert your video files into four different video formats: H.264, MPEG-4, MOV and FLV and into AAC, AIFF, MP3 and WAV for audio. There are three different conversion profiles for the AppleTV, two of them are standard definition profiles using H.264 and MPEG-4 and the remaining one uses H.264 for encoding video but in HD resolutions.
This video converter looks very good on the Mac. It keeps the same layout as its Windows version, but it looks better than other converters that make the switch to the Mac. The graphics are polished, and everything simply looks good. There is a video player for quick video previews, and some configuration options, such as video resolution, video quality, audio quality, and the ability to split your videos.
In terms of performance, 4Media AppleTV Video Converter worked very well during my time with it. I converted a 1-minute long HD MKV file into the HD profile in less than 2 minutes, which isn't fast, but is on par with other solutions out there.
One thing I don't like about this app is that it uses an installation wizard. This might not sound like a big deal, but this entails a few extra steps and it requires you to type in your password. The Mac allows users to simply drag and drop to install apps, and I think developers should use that.
