Aquallegro is intended for music students. It includes music theory contents as well as ear training for chord and interval recognition. It is excellent news that it comes with various quizzes to test the aspects studied, with the added value of keeping your progress records. The application has three main modules: Notation, Aural Skills and Keyboard, which comprise other more specific contents.

The Notation module starts by teaching note names. Fortunately, the app lets you choose your preferences in terms of notation: American and European. Likewise, it is meant to teach such concepts as intervals, solfege, scales and beats. The Aural Skills module, in turn, moves to the field of ear training. Again, such concepts as intervals, chords, scales, tuning and note names are revisited from a more practical point of view. Finally, the Keyboard module is intended to rehearse notes with a virtual keyboard.

Luckily, you can customize quizzes to different levels of difficulty. For instance, you can toggle multiple attempts on or off. Moreover, you can check those aspects you would like to be tested on. Similarly, there are various ways to answer questions, which makes drills less boring (for me, drills are always boring, though necessary at times). As you answer the quizzes, you get a score for your performance in each question. However, I feel that the feedback could be a little more explicit. Regrettably, it does not seem to allow remote tutors to have access to their trainees´ scores.

I regret to say that Aquallegro´s graphical user interface is cluttered and not very attractive. However, it does allow navigating through the modules quite easily. From the main window, you can see all the modules and their different contents, and you can easily pick the ones you wish to study.

In general, Aquallegro is a great support for students of music. Great news is that the product is absolutely free and there are no hidden costs involved. So, whether you are a music tutor or student, this is an opportunity you should not miss.
