Armagetron Advanced is a Tron light cycle game clone with 3D graphics and multiplayer capabilities (local and online). The game uses an extremely dense grid that requires intricate maneuvers and extraordinary reflexes to navigate safely.
For those unfamiliar with the Tron light cycle game, it's basically a high-speed version of Snake where the aim is to destroy other players by forcing them to crash into a tail. There are no body-lengthening snacks to collect here; tail/exhaust length is constant or infinite, depending on game settings.
For reasons I was unable to determine, the light cycle pauses before exploding for about a second in online play, permitting the player to evade the wall (assuming there is a space to turn in to, however small). In local play death is concurrent with contact. Perhaps the online multiplayer delay is a mechanism built in to prevent lag-based deaths. In any case, it allows much more complex play - players weave intricate passages around each other from which escape is common for the skilled but unthinkable for the novice.
