Auto FX Free is a set of example effects taken from the extensive catalog of image enhancing effects provided by Auto FX Software. The package contains ten free effects taken from the Mystical Suite Gen2, DreamSuite Ultimate Gen2, and PhotoGraphic Edges Gen2 filter sets. They work as plug-ins for Photoshop, Lightroom, and Corel or Serif products, or as a standalone app.

Used as a plug-in for your favorite image editor, Auto FX Free becomes but a link to the interface of the program’s standalone version. Whether you select it from the corresponding menu or launch it directly from your desktop, you will always be presented with a simple GUI suitable for all kinds of users. When coming from any of the supported editors, the program will load the active image automatically, while if you are using the standalone version, you’ll need to load the photo you want to work with yourself. You can make use of the program’s zoom in/out tool to select a specific area before selecting one of the presets provided from the corresponding menu. Each preset comes with its own settings, which you can tweak and play with until you’re happy with the results, and then save to create your own custom variant for further use.

The list of effects included in this free sample package include Focal Zoom, Light Brush, Mood Lighting, Vitality, Lighten and Sharpen, Sharpen Details, Abstract Edges, Photo Border, Dreamy Photo, and Mosaic. Some will let you emphasize a particular portion of your photo, lighten dark areas, add a dark mood to your images, emphasize their color intensity, apply a delicate dreamy effect to them, turn them into creative mosaics, and brighten and sharpen specific details, while others will work with your photo’s edges and borders to add frames and shapes to them. Once selected, the program will apply the desired effect using a default preset. As said, however, each and every effect activates a specific set of tools that will allow you to adapt the default view to your preferences. You can go back to the original image at any moment by clicking on the button provided, or simply undo some of the previous actions to go back to an earlier editing stage.

The results are always stunning. You can save them in some of the most common image file formats, though if you came from another image editor, clicking on the “OK” button will close the program and take you and your enhanced photograph back to the tool you came from, where you can resume your previous task.
