Creating background music for your website, games, home movies, or just for the pleasure of doing it is now a bit easier with Beatz Maker Evolution. This loop-based music creation tool comes with a plethora of samples, covering instruments, voices, bass, drums, etc., allowing you to create looped samples with up to 16 tracks, and add effects to them individually.

Though designed to be of use to both beginners and more savvy music creators, the way the main interface has been structured and a lack of offline help make the program’s learning curve slower than what one would expect. The program’s website, however, includes links to a nice collection of online video tutorials (also available on YouTube) that somehow make up for the lack of help pages.

Though you can use your own samples, the program’s sample library offers sufficient beats and rhythms to keep you busy for quite a while. All you need to do is browse and play back those samples until you find the beat that better fits the type of music you want for your song. There are voices, instruments, sounds, drum beats, you name it, and the high level of customization that they support makes your creativity the only objective limitation to what you can do with this tool.

Thus, you can choose beats-per-minute rates ranging from 80 to 300, depending of the tempo you wish to apply to your song. You have four different play modes, and you can add effects to each track individually (reverb, echo, etc.), change its volume and panning values, equalize and synthesize them, etc. The pitch editor and the random beat creator are probably the program’s two main tools. One of the tutorials will show you how to make the most of these powerful and essential utilities, which will allow you to adapt existing samples to precisely the rhythm that you have in mind. Samples and songs can be saved using lossless WAV as the only output format, thus guaranteeing the best quality possible.

Beatz Maker Evolution is very far from being another expensive music creation tool. Its more-than-reasonable price allows anyone to enjoy its many features without parting with the (sometimes outrageous) amount of money that most competitors will ask you to pay for their licenses. You can always try the demo version first, and if you manage to unleash all its potential, you will end up with a highly versatile tool for next to nothing.
