The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is an unwanted event whose most difficult part is often finding out what caused it. A solution to find out the cause of such events is analyzing the dump files created by its occurrence. First of all, your Windows system has to be configured to create MiniDump files on BSOD. If this condition is set and MiniDump files are automatically created every time your system crashes, then you may use this application to analyze these files and find out what caused the crash.
BlueScreenView is a pretty simple tool that scans all the Minidump files generated during the BSOD crashes, analyzes them and shows the crash information that they contain. For each crash, BlueScreenView displays basic information such as the minidump filename, the date/time of the crash, the Bug Check Code and 4 parameters, and the details of the driver or module that possibly caused the crash (filename, product name, file description, and file version). This makes it possible to identify the faulty driver that caused the crash.
By default, this tool analyzes the standard C:/Windows/Minidump folder of your Windows system where these files are generated and stored, but separate DMP files can also be individually loaded and analyzed.
This neat and handy tool is also free and represents a great helping hand whenever you engage in the challenging quest of determining what caused your system to crash.
