BPBible 0.4 is a flexible Bible Study tool. The software has many of the features the user would expect in a Bible application – Bible, Commentary, and Dictionary support, Bible Search, Scripture tool tips, etc. It uses a proximity based search, rather than just a verse-based search. It implies that a search can cross verse boundaries, giving a more natural search. It also supports regular expressions and phrases.
BPBible lets the user rearrange their layout, and will remember the layout for them. Due to the use of the SWORD libraries, BPBible can read many modules. The main module repository is the Crosswire SWORD Modules repository. The program supports collecting the passages related to a topic into a list and then organizing and commenting on those passages. The software uses open source technology including Python, wxPython and the SWORD project. The search option features an area to mention the search type as well as word proximity. The search ranges from either the whole bible or the old/new testament. The user can search from the comprehensive list of books to find an apt and appropriate title.
The tool helps the user in effective bible study with options, which would appeal them for an in-depth bible study.
v0.5.3.1 [Dec 26, 2011]
This is the first full version using a new rendering engine. Important additions include continuous scrolling, better support for languages with a Right to Left script such as Hebrew, and many other improvements.
1. Languages:
BPBible can now be used in Nepali.
BPBible now has better support for displaying Right to Left languages (such as Hebrew).
BPBible now has better support for copying from complex scripts (such as Thai).
BPBible now does not fail if searching using the Portuguese locale.
2. Improvements:
BPBible has switched to using a new rendering engine. As a result, many things have been improved or changed. Some of the most noticeable improvements are:
- Continuous scrolling: Instead of being restricted to viewing a single chapter at a time, the contents of the book can continue to scroll until the end is reached.
- Column view: View a chapter in columns that fit the height of your screen rather than in a single column.
- Blocked Strong's Headwords: Display the Strong's headwords underneath the translation rather than next to it.
- Colour Code by Speakers: Underline the words said by different speakers in different colours.
- Rich text copying: It is now possible to copy formatted text using the Copy Verses dialog. This allows features of the text such as italics and red letter text to be copied.
- Separating Daily Devotionals and Dictionaries: Previously daily devotionals and reading planners used to be in the same window as dictionaries. This made it impossible to have a daily devotional at the same time as a dictionary. They are now separate windows.
Changed the dictionary topic titles to try and display the topic name in title case rather than all uppercase.
Added an option to Copy Verses to allow it to copy formatted (which will copy italics and other important properties of the text). Also improved the speed of Copy Verses and Quick Copy for plain text copy.
Changed the settings of where to find books to be stored in the user's home directory rather than in the application directory.
Changed scripture tooltips to display verses in one block rather than one block per verse if the tooltip contains adjacent verses (e.g. 1 Kings 5:3, 4).
Added support for showing in the Book Information window the URL to visit to obtain an unlock key for a book (if it is present in the book's conf file).
3. Bug fixes:
Fixed a bug which prevented topic management from working for users with accented characters in their user name.
Fixed bugs which led to the "BPBible has detected an error" being frequently displayed when the program was closed.
