BuddyPop speeds up user interaction with the operating system's built-in Address Book tool. With this application you will be able to quickly find contact details simply by typing in their names. It leaves a small CPU and memory footprint and is triggered by a custom keyboard shortcut.
The utility may be launched automatically at login and will run in the background awaiting contact queries. Once the defined hotkey is pressed, a small floating window appears; by using it I was able look-up Address Book entries. All searches are in real-time, meaning you will see available contacts for each letter you type.
Users can customize the location of the floating window (5 available positions), change header, content background colors as well as font face and size; this way you can integrate BuddyPop to match your own desktop wallpaper or theme.
From the Preferences panel I defined the number of fields displayed in the floating window and how they interact when clicked: copy to the clipboard, dial with speakers, show with big font, send SMS etc.
For users with a huge contacts list, BuddyPop is quite an invaluable tool but only for them alone; it retrieves contacts faster from Address Book without even running the Mac app and performs an associated task for each selected entry. Unless you work with Address Book frequently though, BuddyPop only provides a few shortcuts to contact list entries and nothing more.
