Black Ops III is the latest installment in the blockbuster franchise that is Call of Duty. It is, once again, a rail shooter with an epic, yet formulaic campaign when it comes to singleplayer, and a classic online shooter with time-proven mechanics where the multiplayer is concerned.
The campaign takes off after the events of Black Ops II and shows us the world where environmental disasters and technological progress have transformed the earth into one big proxy battlefield where corporate mercenaries enhanced with cybernetics and nanotechnologies fight each other. The story is nothing special, as is to be expected from Call of Duty, and the joyride of explosions, death of your squadmates and epic leaps is pretty standard. The much-advertised features of advanced sci-fi technology don't really influence the gameplay, and playing through the story is short, but a bit dull.
The multiplayer is as competent as ever, with good modes and features for competitive combat in teams or free for all. It holds up to the CoD standard. There are, of course, various special modes like the traditional zombie mode.
Overall, Black Ops III is nothing special, but it's still a nice big-budget shooter in the vein of Michael Bay movies. It's worth playing.
