ChessJam is an exciting online chess game where you can put your chess strategies to the test. Once you created your ChessJam account, you will be able to challenge other users in a game, play against robots, chat with users from all over the world and do many other things.

The installation is fast and clean, though, in order to install this application properly you will need to download and install Adobe Air if you don't have that already installed on your system. When you run the program for the first time, you will notice its simple and interactive interface, with a cool medieval theme. The castle represents the "building" where all matches happen, the tower is the place where you will find the game rooms and in the courtyard you can chat with other users or challenge them to a game.

The chess game is presented as realistic as it can be: there are time limits for each move, you won't be able to undo your move, etc. The game ends when one of the players is checkmated, when the timer for one of the users goes off or when a move is repeated three times. The more matches you win, the higher your rating will get; but if you lose, your rating will decrease.

Whether you win or lose while playing against robots, your current rating won't be influenced by the result of this kind of game.

The application also gives you access to a built-in instant messenger where you can initiate discussions with other users, see who is online, check the tables activity and many other.

You can always check which users have the highest ratings, see the real-time ChessJam activity worldwide, be informed about the available tournaments and many others, only by simply clicking on the "Stats" button.

Briefly, ChessJam is an engaging online chess game where you can compete against other players from all over the world.

v4.1 [Jan 1, 2011]
- A once rare timeout bug has been recently exploited by a few users to become a real nuisance on ChessJam. The bug allowed someone to force a timeout of a game to avoid having the rating calculated for the winner and loser. This problem has now been fixed.
- There have been several complaints about some players utilizing computer programs to help them win games on ChessJam. We have added "application switch detection" into the ChessJam application to help identify users that are switching from ChessJam to another app after every move. We realize that it's common to switch to other applications during a game so we ignore it unless the number of application switches is very close to the number of moves. For now, we're collecting the information only for analysis. During the next few days, we'll add automatic messages to the chat window to notify the opponent that the player is switching between moves.
- Some players are registering with multiple usernames to help boost their rating on ChessJam. They play themselves to pump up their rating. We are starting to compare the IP address of both players to try and reduce this practice. There are valid cases where both players will be on the same network and can be sharing an IP address (for example, if someone plays someone in their own home, they will have the same address) so we'll only use this data when we see other patterns that suggest that someone is pumping up their rating.
