A beat-based roguelike game

City of Beats is a thrilling music game that makes use of action roguelike elements that allow you to experience the game in a way that’sunique from other players. This indie title from Torched Hill will require you to battle against hordes of robot enemies while also orchestrating a harmony of sounds.

Similar to games like Spellbreak and EVERSPACE 2, City of Beats focuses heavily on intense battle sequences with challenging enemies coming at you in unison. However, the latter also makes sure to place great importance on music, as this interconnects with weapons, enemies, and your environment.

Move to the music

City of Beats makes use of bright and vivid 3D visuals that you would expect from your typical music games. Don’t let the funky graphics fool you, though. With procedurally generated maps, you’re in for a wild ride that allows you to experience the game in new ways every time you start a new round. Each round presents new maps and enemies for you to go up against.

The game makes use of twin-stick shooter mechanics, which adds to its difficulty, especially for new players. However, while the learning curve can be pretty steep, successfully defending yourself against enemies is sure to be a rewarding experience. You’ll also only haveone life, so you need to make sure to come up with the best strategies in order to stay alive.

Worry not, though, as you can upgrade your weapons and switch around your extensions to provide you with more powerful tools. You can also upgrade your core traits to improve your abilities. There are hundreds of different ways to mix and match all of these elements, so make sure to try out as many combinations as you can think of.

Prepare for a challenge

City of Beats isn’t going to be a walk in the park, considering the difficult roguelike elements and tricky controls. However, the stunning graphics and thrilling gameplay are more than enough to make it worth playing. You’ll have full control over the weapons you use and the equipment you can add on, so you can customize your combat abilities in numerous ways.
