Recover valuable disk space by locating and deleting unnecessary files. CleanDisk allows you to select the types of scan you want it to perform from among 16 predefined options, and define your own types too. Besides, you can also select the specific paths where you want the program to look for unnecessary files. Those paths may be local or even network paths!
Thanks to its sober user interface, this program is very intuitive and easy to use. On the main screen you can select one or more paths to analyze, and you can create new paths or delete any of the existing ones. As mentioned before, the new paths can include any local or remotely accessible folder or drive. After that, you should select the types of scan you want the program to perform, for which you are provided with two panels. On the first one, you can see the currently selected scan types, while in the second one you will find the rest of the available types. You can add or remove the types of scan that will be applied to the current job by moving them from one panel to the other. Among the most important predefined types available, you will find specific types that will search for backup files, log files, Windows temporary files, cache files for all the most popular Web browsers, cookies and history files for Internet Explorer, zero-sized files, and many more. In addition, you can create your own templates, and specify either the file patterns to look for or the specific folders to scan.
Once both scan parameters are set, you can start the process with the click of a button. The scan process is very fast and it generates a report listing all those files that can be safely deleted from your system. Now you can select all the files or just the ones you really want to get rid of, and tell the program to delete them, move them to the recycle bin, move them to another specific location, or open the files to see their content. As soon as the files are deleted, you will recover your valuable disk space immediately. And all at a price tag of just $10.
v3.1 [Jul 31, 2010]
- Added support for Unicode file names.
- Added "Google Chrome cache" and "Opera cache" scan types.
- Updated the "Visual C++ cleanup" scan type to clean up files from Visual Studio 10.
- Updated the "Broken shell links" scan type to ask Windows to try to resolve the broken links first.
- The program settings are now stored in an app-data folder instead of the program folder (this is required by the Windows Vista / 7 UAC).
- When starting the program under Vista / 7, the UAC it will now pop up asking you if you'll allow it to modify your computer. This will allow it to delete temporary files in more file paths. NB, to clean up some paths you must also run it as administrator (though this is not required to run it).
