CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is one of the most popular packages offering vector illustration and imaging tools. With the help of this program designers can create characters, logos, and many other graphic objects. The suite is often used for print design and web design as well.
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 introduces some new features in some of its constituent applications, the primary one being CorelDRAW itself, a professional vector graphics editor. The new release provides CorelDRAW with Smear, Twirl, Repel, and Attract tools, which allow you to alter the shape of vector objects by means of brush strokes. The minor changes the new version has brought in are Styles and Harmonies, which allow you to change fill and outline colors for a group of objects at a time and change the color palette of the whole picture in a few seconds.
Another core application in the suite is Corel PHOTO-PAINT, a photo editor, and the most interesting new feature in it is Smart Carver. It helps you to remove objects from images, and in order to do it you need to put a mask around them and the Smart Cover will interpret the background behind the objects. It probably sounds wonderful on paper, but it certainly won't be able to remove just any kind of unwanted objects as obviously it works better with solid backgrounds with as fewer details as possible.
The other tools in the suite are: Corel Connect, designed to help you manage your content; Corel PowerTrace, helping you to convert from bitmap to vector; Corel Capture, allowing you to take screenshots; PhotoZoom Pro 2, intended for enlarging digital images; ConceptShare, for interactive online collaboration, and the brand new Corel Website Creator, which lets you design and manage websites (note that the application is offered only as an optional download and requires registration).
The new release adds quite a lot to the range of features CorelDRAW Graphics Suite already possesses and even users of CGS X5 could find enough new features to benefit from the update.
v19.1 [Jul 9, 2017]
- Importing a CorelDRAW X8 or a Corel PHOTO-PAINT X8 workspace no longer grays out floating dockers.
- Symbol Manager Docker: The Insert symbol and Edit symbol buttons now use different icons and can be easily identified.
- Customization: The Boundary command appears under Object on the Commands page of the Options dialog box (Tools > Customization menu, Customization list of categories).
- Object Coordinates docker: The Replace object button is readily available when the up and down arrows are used to set new values.
- The Highlight selected objects option works as expected with the default color scheme for vector previews, nodes, and handles (solid mode).
- Overlapping nodes selected with the Shape tool are visible even when node types are shown in different colors.
- Objects with subpaths: When you select the start or end node of a subpath and edit the curve by dragging the control handles, the preview shows the changes along the entire path.
- Editing nodes in mesh fills and complex curves is faster and without flickering.
- All nodes in envelopes are properly displayed.
- Selecting and redrawing objects in complex drawings is now faster.
- You can now open RAW files from Canon 7D in Corel PHOTO-PAINT.
- Various issues were fixed, making it easier and faster to edit, preview, and move text both with the default color scheme for previews and nodes (solid mode) and with the XOR mode, the default preview and node mode for X8 and earlier versions.
- The Virtual Segment Delete tool now works as expected on curve objects.
- It is now faster to select nodes and objects with the Virtual Segment Delete tool, the Shape tool, and the Pick tool.
