Data Tape 3 is a very simple application that splits a big file into smaller parts for easy sharing over the Internet and respectively, merges the split files to have them back in the initial form of one large file.
The interface of the program is clear-cut and intuitive, with the main functions conveniently displayed in plain sight on the upper part of the main window. Dividing a large file is very easy. Once you click the Split button, a browsing window opens up so you can search for the file you wish to parcel out. The moment the desired file is selected, a dialog box pops up offering information about the size of the imported file. In addition, you can choose the size of the split parts by selecting one of the predefined profiles. Consequently, you will know how many output files will be generated after enabling the split operation. Unfortunately, splitting the source file at custom sizes isn't possible. The smaller size you can select is 10 MB.
Merging the segments is even easier. You just need to drag and drop from Finder one split file and the program will bind automatically all segments to rebuild the file at its original form.
Therefore, the program is designed for convenient data sharing, especially when the file you want to upload is very large and consequently, can't be distributed online.
