It is aside-scrollerthat incorporates gameplay elements ofpuzzle-solvingandphysics-based, resulting in an interesting 2Dplatformingexperience. It was actuallycreated in 72 hoursto compete in the48th Ludum Dare Jamevent.
The platforming in Deepest Sword has striking similarities with another game called,Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy. Players are also faced with variousobstaclesthat players need tosolveas they navigate their way toward the final section. What's more, the leveldynamically changeswith each playthrough.
A little about the story in Deepest Sword. You are a knight out to defeat a dragon living in the Cave of Longing. You'll need tostrike it in the heartto vanquish it. So far, so good ... There's a catch, though. Your sword isn't quite up to the task, length-wise. Itgrows with each defeat, however, adding to your chances of defeating the creature — making it easier to overcome obstacles, as well.
The controls in Deepest Sword are a no-brainer. Moveleft and rightusing the A and D keys respectively. Meanwhile, yourotate your swordusing the Left and Right arrow keys. The R key is used forrespawning, and lastly, do afull resetwith the zero key. Yourright and left mouse clickscan be used for sword rotation, too.
Deepest Sword features charminggraphics in retro stylingand puts a unique twist to its platforming mechanics. If there's one thing that could be a detriment to the game, it would be that is avery shortgame. A typical playthrough will not last you more than 10 minutes or so — a bit expected given that the game was created in less than four days, though.
In summary, Deepest Sword's simple but funny premise, combined with itsclever mechanic, makes for a fun, albeit short gameplay. The controls are easy, it's designed well, and is just an overalllight-heartedgame that anyone can play and enjoy. If you have a few minutes to spare, it is worth a playthrough.
