Doppelgänger is a free horror game that starts off with office employee Maxwell getting off the bus andbuying food in a convenience store. After a chat with Michael the cashier, the player activates their phone’s flashlight and walks to their house, which is located in a dark forest.
Doppelgänger’s gameplay involves the player completing in-game objectives from start to finish, such as buying food, reheating pizza, taking a shower, and many more. Once you hear a bloodcurdling scream and drop by the convenience store, a twist of an ending will be waiting for you.
With itseerie atmosphere and well-selected sound effects, this title is best played in a quiet area with headphones. However—as it doesn’t feature a mini-map—some players will find it difficult to find the protagonist’s home. Unfortunately, Maxwell can’t run so backtracking takes more time.
Overall, Doppelgänger complements its straightforward gameplay with a creepy atmosphere and sound effects. Sadly, going from one place to another is time-consuming since the player is unable to run. It’s easy to get lost, too. Most of the time, players will struggle to make their way back home.
