Download Manager Gold is a file download manager that allows users to control Internet downloads. It also keeps and maintains the connections stabilized, increasing the downloading speeds which normally aren't achieved when simply using a web browser. Users can pause and resume downloads as well as download multiple files at the same time.
After installing users must go to register in: http://www.downloadmanagergold.com/unlock.htm, to get the unlocking code of the program by email. This is strange since the license is free but it’s the only way to gain access.
The program consists of a single window interface which is intuitive presenting New, Start, Pause, Pause All, Delete and Remove controls and a queue list. When pressing “New” a popup window asks to paste the URL (which isn't parsed automatically from a web browser); also it asks if it has any password and where do users want to download it to.
Additionally users can place multiple URLs at the same time, like when downloading numerous files from a file share service.
The program has very few settings but in compensation for the lack of options, it has a very interesting feature called “Scheduler”. The Scheduler allows scheduling a onetime download or recurring downloads. Users can set the time, date, days, when to stop, and to perform different tasks after ending such as: exiting the program, or turning off the computer.
In the scheduler users can also tell the program how many downloads are allowed at one time with the “Files in Queue” option. It allows setting up the order of multiple files in queue and the order in which they’ll be downloaded.
Download Manager Gold is basic and has no direct browser integration; however it has key features which make it worth and above all it is free.
