Duplicate images can make any photo collection look messy and unkempt. They can also waste precious disk space. Removing them is definitely recommended, but performing this task manually is tedious and time-consuming, as locating them manually is a pretty difficult job. Luckily, there are special tools like DupDetector that make finding and removing duplicate images a much simpler and easier job.
DupDetector can locate duplicate images of only 10 file formats, but these 10 formats are the most popular ones: JPG, GIF, BMP, PNG, TIF, PCX, TGA, WMF, EMF, PSP. Its interface looks a bit unpolished and lackluster, and though it looks rather simple, it isn’t easy to use either. The use of “image data files” that has to be built first, from folders containing photos, make this application a bit complicated. Novices could find it difficult to understand how to use it. Anyway, once you get the hang of it, you will be able to track duplicate images quickly and easily. Despite its downsides, it’s a really handy tool that can detect duplicate images with great accuracy. The fact that it is free also compensates for its disadvantages.
In my opinion, DupDetector is worth trying, especially if you care more for the accuracy of the duplicate image detection, than for the ease of use.
