Filmage Screen is a set of tools intended to help with the process of screen capturing, audio recording as well as video editing and conversion. In this respect, the package contains a screen recorder, an audio recorder, a movie editor and a video converter. Fortunately, there is a convenient welcome screen to help you pick the right tool.
The screen recorder supports various modes, for instance, grabbing just a screen region, the whole screen or a window. Besides, you can also record audio from a microphone or the sound card. What is more, you can even record from a camera in picture-in-picture mode. This way, it could be possible to create a demonstration movie in which images from the screen are combined with a video of the person giving the explanation.
The movie editor is basic but still enough for most tasks. A central element is the timeline, which has tracks to edit audio, video and effects separately. It can be used for such operations as trimming and merging. Likewise, it allows adding titles, shapes, captions and various effects. Unfortunately, though, it does not support working with multiple video tracks.
The converter, in turn, lets you transcode footage with support of practically any popular format. Its long list of video extensions include MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, MKV, FLV, 3GP and MPEG, which means that the resulting movies can be played on a wide range of devices and players. Luckily, it even allows creating animated GIFs to include on a webpage.
All in all, Filmage Screen can accompany you throughout the whole workflow from the initial recording to its postproduction. Thus, such tool can come in handy for creating video tutorials and software demonstrations. Nevertheless, it is a pity that it does not include collaboration features, like Cloud sharing and live streaming. Luckily, there is a trial version you can download from the developer's site. Since there are many similar apps around, it is a good idea to try a few before deciding to buy one.
