The classic JRPG comes to Android

When it comes to JRPG games, there is no more famous and best-selling than Final Fantasy. This role-playing game franchise has changed the course of the genre in many ways. Now fans of the game can play it anywhere as Square Enix released mobile versions of the titles. The Final Fantasy VII for Android will feature the same story from the original game. However, it will come with a few modifications to work better with the touch controls of today’s smartphones.

The epic story in your mobile device

The Android version of Final Fantasy VII will tell the same story of the original version. Players will follow Cloud Strife, a mercenary of the rebel organization, AVALANCHE. You will journey with him and other memorable characters through the world of Midgar. No changes or additions have been made to the story. The Android version lets you play using a simple and comfortable virtual controller designed not to obscure the action.

You can choose to play with virtual analog or fixed 4-way digital control pads. There is also a configuration menu where you can adjust the opacity of the on-screen controller. More than optimizing the game to fit smaller screens, the Final Fantasy VII Android version also offers two new features to make playing easier and more convenient. One of which is the option to turn off enemy encounters on the world and area maps.

This could be useful in dire situations and can even be an option if you only want to relive the story of the game. Another new feature is the Max Stats, which instantly maxes out the stats of all the player’s characters. It is a cheat that will allow you to breeze through the game. You should be careful when activating the cheat, though. Once you turn it on, there is no way to revert to the original stat of your characters.

Some things to consider

Before you download Final Fantasy VII for Android, you have to note that not all Android devices are compatible with the game. Square Enix has released a list of models wherein the game has been tested to work properly. However, having your phone model in the list does not mean that it will work well. Additionally, the game has a couple of bugs that may affect your game.

One of those is a bug that prevents modes of transportation—such as the buggy, the submarine, and the airship—from moving when the players get on and off them. The bug depends on the timing of the action and the terrain where you currently are. The only solution to this issue is to restart the game and load a saved file. This is why Square Enix recommends frequent saving.

Speaking of saving, Final Fantasy VII for Android does not save your progress automatically, even though the AutoSave is activated. Final Fantasy VII for Android requires 4GB of free space to initiate the download. It will also take up 2GB of space after installation. With this large data requirement, expect the download to take some time.

Final Fantasy VII for Android is a great way to experience the classic RPG. It provides the nostalgia of once again playing one of the best titles in the video game history. Despite the massive space requirement and the bugs, this game is still worth downloading.
