In the world of Web browsing, there is only one way to position yourself against the Big Three – by providing free and exclusive useful functionality to your users. FlashPeak Slimjet is an open-source, Chrome-based browser that primarily blocks all those ads that waste our time and gather private information our habits. And then, it can download online videos, improve your images and upload them at high speed, and more.
This browser’s interface is clean and attractive, very much in line with the other Chrome-based browsers out there. However, it offers to persons with a visual impairment a set of basic accessibility features that are not commonplace among other similar browsers, such as caption options, object highlighting, a text cursor, high-contrast background and foreground colors, etc.
What makes Slimjet really stand out from many of its competitors, though, is its automatic ad-blocking function. You won’t need to tell your browser to block unwanted publicity or choose which to block and which to allow – all ads have simply disappeared. However, if you happen to miss certain ads, you can always whitelist your favorite sites. Talking about unwanted publicity, the only con I came across while using this browser is the amount of unwanted links to well-known vendors both in its initial window and below the navigation bar. I admit I found it surprising for such an advocate of ad-free Web browsing.
Anyway, nothing prevents you from getting rid of those links one way or another, and Slimjet’s functionality and browsing speed clearly make up for all the bother. Search engines – Bing seems to be the default in the address bar, but you can either change that or use “Slimjet Search”, the browser’s own search engine. While browsing the Web, you can download online videos from selected sites, record videos to watch them offline, translate pages in foreign languages, upload images to social sites, and even enhance and improve them before sharing using its Photo Salon.
All of these utilities, together with its sensible use of your system’s resources and its high-level ad-blocking algorithms, will surely enhance your browsing experience to the point of asking yourself why nobody recommended Slimjet to you way before.
