Folder Forge is intended to organize your folders in a more meaningful way than just standard system colors. In this regard, the tool supports assigning custom colors and icons to each folder to make them stand out from the rest. Although the application is self-explanatory and you can always learn to use it, that may take long hours depending on the type of user. Regrettably, the help documentation is very poor.

In order to modify your folder’s properties, you just need to select it in Folder and use Colored Folder Creator. In this respect, the application comes with a built-in editor, called Creator, which lets you change the folder’s color, text and artwork. Fortunately, the color palette is endless and you can pick any shade from the color wheel. Likewise, you can use the desired fill style (ex. Gradient). Also, you will be glad to know there is an extensive library containing more than 1000 pre-built images. But that is not all, it is also possible to draw from scratch using such tools as Brush, Line, Square, Circle, Triangle, Hexagon and Octagon. One additional advantage of Folder Forge is that archived folders shared with others still keep the icons.

Unfortunately, the product has some drawbacks. One of them has to do with recoloring a file. In such a case, the color may revert to standard instead of applying the new property. Likewise, there is no way by which you can sync folder properties with other machines.

All in all, Folder Forger does most of what it claims. It comes in very handy when you have tons of folders and have a hard time finding the one you want. The product can be bought from the Mac App Store at a reasonable price.
