FolderToList lets you create a list of the files contained in the selected folders. Despite being a very light utility, it supports working with huge amounts of data as those stored in an entire hard disk. In addition, it seamlessly works with portable storage devices and optical discs. Thus, it may come quite handy in cataloguing any type of information.

Fortunately, there is no rocket science knowledge necessary to use this tool from the start. A simple drag-and-drop operation is enough to begin scanning the contents of the chosen container. Moreover, if you drag another folder, you realize the new files are automatically appended to the previous list. Besides, there is always the possibility to initiate compiling a completely new list.

There are a few additional options you may want to know about. For instance, it is allowed to pick the type of element you want to catalog, which may be just folders or files, or both. Luckily, you can also decide to process files recursively.

Good to know that the resulting lists can be exported in RTF format, which is readily supported by most text editors. However, it is still a shame that no other formats seem to be supported. Likewise, it would be good if it allowed us more control over the output format, I would suggest using templates for this purpose. Finally, it would also be quite convenient if the tool could let us work with file metadata as well.

In short, FolderToList can save us a lot of work and time by automatically generating lists from selected folders. The product is available from the Mac Store at a convenient price. Finally, I must alert you that, although there is a Windows program with exactly the same name and far more features, it seems to be completely unrelated with this Mac application being reviewed here.
