As its name clearly suggests, Free Language Translator allows you to translate texts among many of the most popular languages around the world. The program supports more than 50 languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Portuguese, and even some more ancient ones like Latin and Hebrew. Besides, the program can recognize the language of your source text for you, which is a very useful feature when you need to translate a text you don't even know what language it is in.

In my opinion, the program's user interface is quite unattractive and a bit rude, so this aspect could be widely improved. However, the program offers several powerful features that you will hardly find in other language translators, so I would say this is a great translation tool anyway. For example, the program does not only allow you to translate the texts that you paste or type, it lets you upload files in many popular formats like PDF, DOC, DOCX, HTM, HTML, RTF, TXT and even subtitle files in SRT and SUB formats, extracting the text from them for you.

Another great feature of the program is that it allows you to choose whether to use Google online translation engine (the translation method used by most translators), or the program's own internal dictionaries. The program offers you to customize its internal dictionaries: you can add new entries, remove them and modify any of the existing ones, for any language pair. You can also enable or disable the "Calculate Accuracy" feature, which provides a reverse translation of your text and gives you a coincidence percentage between your original text and the reverse translated one.

The only thing I really dislike about Free Language Translator is that it forces you to create a Microsoft Azure account (if you don't have one) and register it in order to work with the program. You can use a free account to translate up to 2 million characters a month, however, I think this really turns the program into not completely free one.

In conclusion, if you need to translate texts under 2 million characters a month among the supported languages, and you're willing to create a MS Azure account and give the program full access to it, maybe you will want to give Free Language Translator a try. Otherwise, you should look for another text translator.
