Developer:

Work with a financial accounting suite for small businesses. Create a database for updating information copied and extracted from bank accounts, stocks, income and expense records, etc. Automatically process input content according to professional accounting principles.

Gnucash is an absolutely free small business and personal finance accounting system. Whether you are a small-business owner or an individual you can take advantage of this free double-entry accounting system. The program tracks all of your assets and liabilities using one convenient interface.

You can begin using the program with creating a database for your accounts. The information can also be imported from QIF files for all you Quicken users. All process is done through a step-by-step wizard.

Figuring out the program will take some of your time, so I encourage you to actually check out the tutorials that are supplied with the program. You can find them in the program's package. Double entry accounting is awesome as you won't lose a cent in your transactions, but it can also be a pain in the back. There is a reason people give four years in college just to learn principles of accounting, and then take exams for the rest of their lives to keep their accounting degree current.

You work with the program by either creating accounts (assets, expenses etc) and transactions within them. Check out the transaction screenshot to see what it looks like and what you can do within a transaction.

Overall, it is free and it is available for major operating system on the market. I am sure some of the people or business owners will find this program suitable for their needs.

v2.4 [Jan 5, 2011]
Major changes in the 2.4.0 release include;
In addition to the XML backend, Gnucash can now use a SQLite3, MySQL or PostgreSQL database to store the data. This is a new implementation using libdbi. It supports all features including the business features. In order to build with this, add --enable-dbi to the configure command. In addition to the libdbi-dev package for your distribution, you will also need the appropriate DBD (libdbi driver) package for sqlite3, mysql or postgresql.
As a replacement for the current GtkHTML HTML engine used to display reports and graphs, Gnucash can use WebKit. WebKit is the engine used by Google Chrome on Windows and Safari on Apple. In order to build with this, add --with-html-engine=webkit to the configure command. You will need an appropriate webkit-dev package. On win32, you will need to download the webkit-1.1.90-win32.zip file from the source repository and put it into the downloads directory of your gnucash build area.
Updated AqBanking on Win32.
