Half-Life 2 is the sequel to the classic FPS game, Half-Life. It puts you in control of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who joins the Lambda Resistance to fight the Combine. You are helped by various characters throughout the game, and there are some sequences along the way.
I have played this game before, somewhere 5 years ago, when it was first released. I don't think I ever finished it, but now I think I should try to do just that. Half-Life 2 is like a movie. It is science fiction game with puzzles, fights and a great story. It is linear in design, so you might feel like you are being taken for a ride at times, but the time you spend with this game is highly worth it. After all, it has received more than 30 game of the year awards, and some people claim it was the best game of the last decade.
The Mac version of this game plays relatively well. It was also developed by Valve, so you know they put some work in it. When you install the game through Steam, the game analyses your computer and it automatically uses recommended graphics settings for better performance. My Mac doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, but it was able to run the game at maximum settings. It did take a long time to load and some times it hanged, but it was more than playable. I also experienced some moments where the sound would cut off for a few seconds.
In short, this is a great game, and a must-play. It is available for the Mac, and, although it has a few problems, it is totally worth your time.
