Turn your PC into a transceiver by launching the Java-based application communicating over a simulated Ionosphere environment called the HamSphere covering frequencies of 6m to 160m Ham band. Double-sideband modulation is included, all settings are configurable.
HamSphere is a virtual Ham Radio Transceiver that works on any Java-driven system. It can be used by licensed and unlicensed radio enthusiasts. In order to be able to download and use the program, you will need to register on the site. If you are an unlicensed operator, they will assign you a "call sign" - the name through which you will be known when operating HamSphere. You must pass a shot exam to be approved as an operator, through a multiple-choice test hosted on the developer’s site. The answers to the questions are included in two separate pages that you can read while reviewing the exam.
When using this program you will be able to communicate with thousands of Amateur Radio operators from over 160 countries worldwide, and all you will ever need is a multimedia PC and an Internet connection.
HamSphere supports Voice (SSB) and CW (Morse code), though SSTV and digital modes will not work well in HamSphere 2.0. The program also offers a chat window that you can use to exchange messages with other operators around the world.
v2.0 [Oct 28, 2009]
Version 2.0.19 has these important fixes:
* Fixed ability to set down to 10 hertz values with text input ENTER
* Fixed /record and /play parameters that crashed with no parameter. More explanation texts added.
* Fixed text scrolling "hold" when copying from the cluster.
* Fixed full response filter on 6m. Filter-2 on 6-meter band now has a 100-3800 Hz freq response.
* Fixed the Audio lag issue. I had forgotten to turn on the jitter buffer. Very very unfortunate. This has caused bigger lagging for some users.
* Changed all alert text in the application to more friendly format.
* Fixed that wrong pin clears the PIN field. Too many hams tend to forget that there are characters not visible to the right if they have too long passwords.
* New TIERS. 3 day Trial, expired trial and subscriber mode. More info will follow.
* Reworked the server authentication so that I can control the credentials dynamically for new TIERS.
* Reworded server messages with trial expiry information upon login.
* Database connection problem in server corrected.
