This is a utility that finds and deletes so called trash-files from your hard-drives (such as the files with extensions BAK, TMP, GID, CHK). HDCleaner scans for these files on the selected hard-drives and then offers you to delete all the files that have been found, or only those that you hand-pick after the scan. The program also scans the registry for obsolete items, that may slow down the performance of Windows system. HDCleaner is also equipped with malware-detecting module, but it doesn’t prove to be very effective. To be honest, the whole program doesn’t prove to be very effective, because it doesn’t detect many of the obsolete files on hard drives. It’s probably due to Kurt Zimmermann’s will to make his HDCleaner safe, so it doesn’t delete something more then trash-files. But Kurt would rather make HDCleaner detect MANY files, and then just point out to the user which of them may be dangerous to delete. HDCleaner can also be used as a quick-access to such things as List of installed in your OS programs, Windows start-up list, free HD-space and RAM-space. Due to the German origin, the program’s interface is all in German, and for those who are unfamiliar with this language it slows the getting to know process for this app. And there are no updates available.
