HDD Fan Control is a system utility that protects the hard drive of your Mac – namely, it is designed to monitor and control the rotation speed of hard drive's fans in order to reduce the noise released by HDD coolers, and thus protecting your Mac against drive overheating.

The tool installs in the menu bar of your Mac. You may enable the program to run automatically at system's startup to monitor the current temperature and the RPM of your drive at all times. The menu bar icon is meant to inform you in real time about the HDD temperature and the fan speed – however, the accuracy of the data shown is questionable, since, while using the app, no modification was noticed. What is good about this program is that you can determine a custom relation between the drive’s temperature and fan’s speed according to your needs. Users who prefer working in silence can ask the program to run the fan at minimum speed all the time. By default, the S.M.A.R.T. monitoring feature manages the current temperature of your hard drive – yet, you can turn to iMac internal temperature sensor instead if you prefer.
