This app is nothing like the hidden object adventure games I played so far. Besides bringing you a captivating plot and numerous puzzles, Hidden Expedition: Smithsonian Castle Collector's Edition also provides you with interesting facts regarding the museum and what it holds.
Your adventure begins at the entrance of the museum where your colleague gives you directions. The app gives you access to an interactive tutorial that teaches you how to pick useful items from scenes, interact with characters, move to other locations, and so on. You can disable this help guide if you want to.
Each location brings you at least one type of challenge. Personally, I enjoyed completing the hidden object mini-games as they were a bit different than what I was used to. The app didn't offer a list with names of items to me; instead, it showed a sequence of images at the bottom of the screen which could be found on the scene by interacting with random objects. For instance, in one mini-game, I had to move photographs to reveal the hidden objects.
I also liked the IT-related challenges. For example, there's one mini-game where you need to indicate certain points on a portrait so that a facial recognition program can identify the person in the picture.
Like in many other Collector's editions of hidden object games published on the Big Fish website, you have access to a strategy guide (gives you info regarding which items can be found on certain scenes, how to solve puzzles, etc.), wallpapers and music files, etc. Plus, you can unlock an additional chapter after you complete the main story of the game.
