HyperDither is a handy piece of software that employs the Atkinson filter in order to convert color and grayscale photographs to 1-bit black and white files. It is effective and free of charge. Additionally, this program has low system requirements and runs well on Mac OS 10.5.2 or higher.
What makes this application particularly appealing is the high quality output. This is due to the implementation of the Atkinson algorithm, which is better than most dithering effects available in high end editing products.
HyperDither has an intuitive functionality; all you have to do is drag and drop an image file to its layout. The output may then be saved in a specific disk location. Additionally, users can batch process a whole folder of graphic files. Zoom functions are available from the file menu and can be triggered by hotkeys.
You can also apply sharpen and contrast effects in order to reach the desired output.
HyperDither can easily process large files and is aimed at all users in need of a solid dithering tool.
v2.0 [Oct 9, 2019]
HyperDither 2.0 is a complete rewrite based on the powerful, modern, document-based editor behind our macOS version of Waterlogue.
• Now includes several popular diffusion dither techniques
• Support for 2 to 256 gray levels
• Create and save custom styles
• Optional document-based workflow
• 64-bit compatibility for current and future macOS versions
New in 2.0.1:
• Fix for image export
• The "Classic" is now the default for new documents
• Fix for default document settings on both new and restored documents
• Miscellaneous fixes and improvements
Note: We removed batch processing from this version, because, as some of you know, it's been broken for a while. We are very sorry about that, and we are working to bring it back as soon as possible!
Coming soon: Color!
