The acronym stands for International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual.
Its purpose is to assist States in meeting their own SAR need and fulfilling obligations accepted under the International Conventions. It has three volumes. Each volume deals with specific SAR system duties and may be used independently or in conjunction with other volumes to understand the full system of SAR.
