iAntiVirus is a security tool by Norton that protects your Mac against viruses. Mac is thought to be a secure system, mainly because virus attacks are not frequent on this platform. Due to its increasing popularity, you see more and more viruses on Mac these days. I was reluctant to install an anti-virus software on my Mac because I didn't trust the available applications. But now that this application by Norton has showed up on Mac App Store, I feel that I can start protecting my Mac with this free tool. There are some limitations, though. For starters, this app doesn't offer real-time protection. It is more of a virus scanner. You can scan specific folders on your Mac or your entire system to find viruses. But since there is no protection against new threats, you will only find a virus in your system during a scan. I don't know if this is a limitation of this free anti-virus tool or of Norton's lineup, but the virus scans are incredibly slow. I selected the "Home" scan option, which scans your Photos, Videos, Music and iTunes folders for viruses, and the scan was painfully slow. I can't even imagine how long a full system scan would take.
The app didn't detect any viruses on my system, so I can't say for sure how well it works in removing threats. I have been a Norton user in the past, and I know that their products work well, though.
In short, I recommend that you start taking measures to protect your Mac, even if you think Macs are impervious to viruses. This free app is currently number 1 on Mac App Store, so it is as good a choice as any.
To make sure that you are protected against modern and complex threats, you need advanced detection and protection technologies.
