iCoolsoft HD Converter for Mac is a commercial video converter. It can be used to convert video files between a variety of formats. The application can open MKV, MOV, DivX, XviD, MP4, FLV, 3GP and WMV files and convert them to lots and lots of different formats. There is a great number of conversion profiles, and there is even a whole section dedicated to HD profiles.

In comparison with other converters, iCoolsoft HD Converter for Mac is an elite converter. Most converters that sell for $35 don't come with a video editor, or a trimmer or a cropper. This tool comes with all of that, plus a lot of conversion profiles. You can even merge videos using this app.

In my testing, I added an MKV file that I knew had a subtitle track and a DTS soundtrack. I then proceeded to select an HD profile to see if I could get a file with subtitles and 6-channel sound. Unfortunately, the best sound I could get was 2 channels, and the subtitles weren't hard-coded onto the converter file. I tried with different video formats, and this feature just didn't work.

All in all, this converter works well for most video conversion tasks. There are some features that I would expect an "HD" video converter to have that this app doesn't have. Still it is much more complete than other commercial converters out there.
