iDear Data Recovery is an application that lets you scan your hard drives for deleted files. Most of the times, when a file is deleted, only the logical reference to file is deleted from the disk. The data itself is still available and applications like this can effectively find and recover those files.
Unlike similar tools, this one doesn't have any filtering options before the scan. This means you won't be able to tell the application what kind of file you are looking for. After the scan is complete, the application does sort found files by type and even format, but you have to carry out a full disk scan to maximize your chances of finding the file that you are looking for. If, on the other hand, you are not looking for one specific file, but for a group of files of different kinds, then this application seems to work like a charm. I carried out a partial scan and the program detected thousands of files. I could preview some of them and they were indeed files that I had deleted in the past.
The trial version of iDear Data Recovery does not let you recover any files; you can only preview them. However, this should be enough for most users that simply want to determine whether the application works before purchasing it.
