If looking for a free multifunctional tool that allows you to convert any video file, DVD disc, or downloaded video into the most common HD and SD video codecs, iFun Video Converter is an option worth considering. Its support for the most common mainstream VR (Virtual Reality) video players makes this tool stand out from the uncountable video conversion tools available in the market.

Even when it comes to standard video formats, iFun Video Converter’s way of handling things differs from most of its competitors. You can choose an output profile among any of the three categories provided – Device, Music, and Player. While the Device and Music categories are commonplace, the set of output profiles under the Player category is not an easy one to come by despite being a really useful one. Except when an audio preset has been selected (in order to extract any of the audio streams of the selected source video), the program tends to use MP4 as the preferred video codec for the output. If you wish to change it to any of the other video formats supported (FLV, AVI, MKV, MPG, WMV, 3GP, etc.), you’ll need to click on the “Custom” button, which will open a new window where you can change not only the codec, but also the bit rate, the resolution, the frame rate, the audio encoder and its bit and sample rates, etc.

When it comes to Virtual Reality videos, however, this free converter comes as a novelty to me. Without probably being the first video converter to incorporate VR-3D video to its list of output profiles, the list of device-based VR presets that this tool offers is certainly impressive. From Carboard to Oculus Rift CV1, from HTC vive to Zeiss VR One, and from PlayStation VR to DreamVR, among others, iFun Video Converter’s choice is most probably the widest one.

The program’s usability is good, and its tabbed and dark-themed interface really adds up to it. A built-in video player, though, would make it less dependent from third-party tools, and the possibility of assigning a different output profiles to each of the source videos on a conversion list would certainly raise its level of flexibility. Despite these minor drawbacks, this free video conversion utility is worth more than just a try. If only for its extensive support for VR devices, iFun Video Converter deserves a place on your desktop.
