Jedit X is a word processor intended for rich text formats, and it is most widely known for its extra features related to supporting the Japanese language. Moreover, it can be used to edit scripts and source code. The tool can save to various document formats, such as RTF, HTML, simple text, DOC and XML.

The application’s interface is highly customizable and lets you work on various files simultaneously. Moreover, it comes with a special feature, called File Drawer, which works as a built-in file manager and lets you organize all the documents. This way, it becomes quite easy to view, browse and sort your files that way that is most convenient to you.

When editing code, Jedix X comes with multiple convenient features that streamline this process. In this regard, just like many other modern editors, it supports syntax coloring and autocompletion for various languages, like C, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Perl, LaTeX, PHP, PLIST and Python. Similarly, it allows using external libraries for programming AppleScripts and HTML. Luckily, it allows using JMTML and HTML to create tagged web pages as well.

Jedix X has some advantages for editing various languages, including some that are written from right to left. Similarly, it can currently check spelling in eight different languages. But above all, it is most suitable for Japanese, as it supports 20 000 Hiragana characters.

Finally, this tool shows an incredible integration with other tools. In this respect, its ability to import objects from a web browser without distorting the original layout stands out.

All in all, Jedit X is a good option for both processing text and editing code. Yet, it is an even better choice if you intend to write in Japanese. I only wished it supported more file formats. There is a demo version you can try at no cost.
