Though specifically mentioned in the program’s name, Leawo AVI Converter is actually a versatile video conversion tool with support to a few more codecs other than AVI, such as MP4. Unlike many other similar tools, Leawo’s app does support full multi-format batch conversion, so that you can combine as many conversion tasks into as many formats supported as you need in one single process.
Surely, this is the program’s main asset. The possibility of converting any number of files into as many different output formats as required in one single operation is a feature that you don’t find out there very often, not even in most self-labeled “professional conversion tools”. Here you can assign a different output profile to each item on the conversion list. You won’t be able to add more output formats to each of them, but you can always load the same video file again onto the list and assign it a different profile. If you happen to wish to convert all files into the same format, all you have to do is check the “Apply to all” box and the program will ignore this great feature to behave like most of its competitors. The list of profiles provided is extensive enough to cover all the most common devices (there are presets for iPod, iPhone, iPad, PSP, PS3, Wii, etc.) and the most used video codecs (MP4, WebM, MOV, RMVB, FLV, MPEG, TS, MKV, or WMV, among others). Besides, you’ll find a nice list of audio formats that you can select to extract the audio stream of your favorite videos.
No reference is made to those other formats in the program’s website (only AVI and 3D AVI are mentioned again and again), but maybe because Leawo AVI Converter actually uses a modified version of Leawo Video Converter’s interface, all those other video codecs are there for you to use for free. Actually, 3D AVI is not one of them, as it’s been reserved for those upgrading from Leawo’s Free AVI Converter (or simply Video Converter?) to Video Converter Pro. This professional tool not only includes support for 3D AVI files but also for many other HD video codecs, and it comes with all the video editing capabilities that this free app lacks.
Leawo AVI Converter includes a convenient video player for you to check your input files, the possibility of taking snapshots of your favorite frames, and a merge video function, which will put together in one large file (and in the output format of your choice) all the videos selected. Despite being but a free showcase for Leawo Video Converter and its Pro version, Leawo AVI Converter is still a useful addition to your desktop that will let you convert your video collection into more suitable formats without any restrictions or watermarks, and with a level of flexibility that you won’t find out there very often.
