LokiCraft 2023 is a free adventure game from the Russia-based indie developer, akseno2. As the free alternative to Minecraft Pocket Edition (MCPE), it offers the same gameplay and similar visual design as the Mojang title. This open-world experience comes in the signature voxel art style, allowing players to choose between a free-building Creative Mode and the more challenging Survival Mode.

As one of the better Minecraft-inspired titles, LokiCraft 2023 offers smooth gameplay with high-resolution graphics. Aside from its unoriginal premise and gameplay, this plays very well on mobile devices. Other similar titles include Craftsman: Building Craft, Earth Craft, or Mini Block Craft.

Your free pass to the voxel world

As a Minecraft-inspired title, the first thing to notice with LokiCraft 2023 is its visuals. Both games are built around a voxel art style, which features cube-based graphics both for their set designs and their characters. LokiCraft also delivers quite quality visuals, with high-resolution designs all across the game. Since both games have basically the same content coverage, this resolution plays out well, regardless of the scenery.

As mentioned, this game lets you choose between two game modes. Creative Mode allows you to build whatever you want, with access to the world and materials you might need. Unlike most MCPE knockoffs, this one covers even advanced building materials like redstones. For thrill-seekers, the Survival Mode pits you in a seeded world, with monsters capable of taking out your character.

While it pins down the controls and the visuals quite well, the controls tell a whole different story. Granted, the original MCPE is already tricky to play on mobile devices, and this game kicks it down a notch. Controls tend to let go intermittently, as shown when your character just stops moving. Aside from that, it’s also prone to lagging. Players have even reported the game outright freezing.

One of the better knockoffs

Despite undeniable similarities in terms of visuals and the overall premise, it’s safe to think that LokiCraft 2023 is one of the better MCPE-inspired titles for mobile. It retains a generally good visual quality all throughout and tries to emulate a lot of content from the original. It even comes in two game modes for various ways to enjoy. Aside from its glaring optimization issues, this game deserves a shot.
