MailSteward helps you make your email account lighter to manage. Thus, by storing copies of the selected messages (probably old mail) in a database, the tool lets you delete them without losing any data. Good news is that it can automatically retrieve messages from your accounts, supporting various protocols and account types. Likewise, it can import them directly from MBOX files.
The app is very easy to use. In fact, you will probably feel as if you were using an email client. Moreover, it comes with various features that support sorting, tagging and finding messages without much trouble, irrespective of the size of the list. In this respect, you can save previous search results as well as search for given attachments.
In terms of importing messages, you can use filters that allow you to skip trash and junk as well as large attachment files. Similarly, the tool can optionally be set to avoid saving duplicate messages. It does not require installing any database manager as it comes with SQL Lite. However, this comes with technical limitations as to the number of messages it can store. On the other hand, it does permit merging databases if you need to.
All in all, MailSteward is an excellent choice for those users who receive massive amounts of email and need to keep records of all of them. This product is available in three editions, which are different in price and features. So, besides MailSteward (standard) being reviewed here, you can also find a Lite and a Pro edition. By the way, since the Pro edition supports using a MySQL database, it can avoid the limitations related to the number of messages (over two million supported). Luckily, you can try any of the editions at no cost except that you will not be able to store more than 15,000 messages.
