Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0, better known as Microsoft Outlook 2007, is an e-mail management application from Microsoft that also provides calendar, task, contact management, note taking, journal, and Web browsing capabilities. This application is part of the Microsoft Office suite. It can be installed on your PC as a stand-alone application, no matter whether the rest of applications of the MS Office suite are installed or not, and it can also operate in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for providing extended functions in organizations, such as shared calendars, public folders and more.
While the rest of applications of Microsoft Office suite experienced a radical remake of their UIs compared to their earlier versions, in this release Outlook is consistent enough with its predecessors not to distract users, and the changes are very subtle in a positive way.
Importing e-mail account settings, e-mails, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes is easier than it used to be in previous versions, even upgrading to Microsoft Outlook 2007 from an earlier version is slightly easier.
A great addition to Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0 appears when you are reading a message directly on the ribbon interface, which is designed to detect quoted components in the message text and subtly highlight the different sections the message might have. This function can be easily disabled in the Options menu, under Preferences > Email Options > "Shade message headers when reading e-mail".
