MIDILoupe is intended to monitor MIDI devices. In this regard, the application can keep a log of messages emitted by the selected MIDI messages. The tool supports practically any MIDI device. Its interface is quite simple, without any kind of adornments. The main window shows the icons corresponding to the MIDI devices installed on your system and it is possible to change icon size to match your preferences. Besides, there is a straightforward toolbar with buttons to add or remove devices, get information about the selected item or perform a new search.
There is another window in which incoming MIDI messages are shown as a list of text entries. The panel on the left shows the list of installed devices, which you can filter out from the logs by unmarking the corresponding checkbox. It is good that each device is assigned a specific color, used to differentiate their messages from the rest. It is a shame, however, that you are not allowed to hide unwanted messages using additional filters. Fortunately, the generated logs can be cleared out or saved to a file. Similarly, it is possible to load existing log files and inspect them.
In short, MIDI Loupe can come in handy for testing MIDI setup. It is good to know that this product can be downloaded from the Mac App Store without spending a dime. Unluckily, it is not compatible with Big Sur, macOS latest version.
