Network Device Finder has a descriptive name, which certainly expresses its purpose: this tool can scan your network to find any web-enabled devices. If there is one word to describe its tool, it is definitely not “sophisticated” but “simple”. In this respect, it has an extremely straightforward interface made up of a single window, where you will find absolutely everything you need to make it work.

As said, you do not have to do much to have your network scanned. Just enter the subnet mask and the port and press the Scan button. Then, in a matter of seconds, you will get a list of all the devices meeting the parameters you specify.

According to its developers, Network Device Finder was created with a very specific purpose in mind: it should help in configuring network video devices when you are using a video surveillance system called SecuritySpy. That would explain its simplicity and the lack of so many features you can find in other similar tools. For instance, it does not allow setting an IP range as filter. Moreover, the results only show the IP and a description of each device, which you cannot change. Besides, the results cannot be exported to external files. Finally, it does not support scheduling scans.

All in all, Network Device Finder is a fast, inexpensive and, above all, simple solution to scan your network and detect devices connected to it. As you have noticed, it is for those users who prefer simplicity over sophistication. Fortunately, this product is free and may save you a few bucks on basic network administration tasks.
