Protecting our passwords, credit card numbers, software license numbers, etc., is becoming more and more necessary as the number of passwords and authentication keys that we manage increases by the hour. With Password Depot you won’t have to worry about their security or crush your memory trying to remember your most sensitive data – you can carry them all with you instead and keep them fully protected at the same time.
The program allows you to create as many “databases” (or safety boxes) as you wish, so that you can keep all your most sensitive data not only protected by also nicely organized. Despite the program’s name, passwords are not the only thing you can lock using Password Depot – it is equally useful for credit cards, passport and ID numbers, bank accounts, you name it.
Still, passwords are given a special treatment. You are offered a password generator that uses the Leet conversion table to produce highly strong passwords. Mind you, they’re far from being easy to remember, and that is one of the various situations in which Password Depot will come in handy. If you prefer to create your own passwords but still want be sure that they are unbreakable, the program offers you a password analyzer that will tell you how reliable the passwords stored on a database really are, providing you with a color-based quality assessment and even a “time to crack” estimate. Every password is, as defined by the program, a record in a database. Each of these records contains not only a name to help you know which is which, but also an extensive list of “fields” attached to them containing URLs, attachments, additional and custom fields, etc.
Password Depot provides you with all the tools you need to create, manage, and keep your passwords safe and private. How you organize or in how many safety boxes you store them is up to you. This mixture of Fort-Knox security and freedom is probably what made me like this tool as soon as I learnt about it. This is not a low-cost solution to your password safety needs – high-end security algorithms are never provided for free, so you are advised to try it first and make sure that it does fulfil all your security requirements before purchasing the corresponding license.
