PDF-OCR-Free is a straightforward application that helps you convert PDF documents into searchable PDFs. The program supports scanned PDF files, since a smart OCR function is provided.

The program comes with a clean and rather dull interface that won't impress you too much in terms of appearance. Yet, all functions are placed conveniently in the main window so that you can enable them with ease. The utility allows you to import multiple files at once in order to convert them in one session. Adding files is done either by searching for files from within the application or, more easily, by dragging and dropping the items onto the list pane. You can change the order of the files loaded simply by dragging the selected items up and down the list. However, I couldn't figure out the use of rearranging files, since a merge feature isn't provided. You can preview the source files as thumbnails, but unfortunately, the small size of the pages displayed prevents you from making out the documents' content.

There are four conversion modes with different characteristics related to saving PDF content. The particularity of each method consists of exporting contents as text and/or image. The major downside of the program's free version is that it only converts the first two pages of multi-page PDFs.

Overall, PDF-OCR-Free is a simple and easily manageable tool designed for users in search of a simple PDF converter. It supports six of the most common languages for text character recognition.
