pdfMachine is intended to preview and edit PDF documents. It also creates PDFs directly from an application's print menu. The program can be used in two modes: viewing and editing. In viewing mode, you can save the opened document with another name, send it via email and, of course, read its contents. Moreover, it is possible to add digital signatures and apply optical character recognition. In editing mode, in turn, you can manipulate the document in several ways. Thus, you can delete, insert and extract selected pages. Besides, it allows you to create thumbnails and bookmarks. It is good that you can actually edit such objects as text and graphics.
It is pity that the program is so limited in terms of supporting other formats apart from PDF. Thus, unlike other similar applications, this one does not permit exporting to other formats, such as Word documents.
Generally speaking, its interface looks quite nice. However, in my opinion, the use of separate windows for viewing and editing may turn out confusing at times. What is even worse, if you open the application from its icon on the desktop, it will appear as a blank window. Frankly, I did not know what to do at first and had almost given up. Then, I decided to close that window. It was then that the program finally appeared on screen.
In a nutshell, it is my honest opinion that pdfMachine is not the best option for editing PDF documents. While it is true that it is more affordable than the leading products of its type, there are still other applications which have a good price and more convenient features. By the way, this tool is shareware, so its trial version will stamp a watermark on each page until you pay for the full version.
