PDF Metadata Editor helps you edit the metadata of a PDF file. In this respect, the application can modify such fields as Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creation Date and Modification Data. Likewise, it supports modifying Basic, XMP Pdf, XMP Dublin Core and XMP Rights metadata. Using the tool can be a little confusing, and, unfortunately, there is no help documentation available, so you will have to figure everything out by yourself.
In single-document processing mode, you can start by importing the desired PDF document. Then, proceed to type the new values in the different fields. Once you are done, you may save your results. In this regard, you can choose to modify the existing document or create a completely new one. There is also a batch processing mode, by which you can import various source PDF files and modify their properties as a single operation. Unfortunately, the batch processing feature should be acquired as an in-app purchase.
Fortunately, the utility can save you some work if you go to Preferences. In this respect, you can use a set of prefilled values that appear by default, and thus, help you avoid some typing. Likewise, you can save metadata to an XMP file, which you can reuse on other PDFs at a later time. Unfortunately, the app does not support extracting metadata from filenames.
To conclude, PDF Metadata Editor can efficiently change the metadata of PDF files. As the application is Java-based, it can work on any operating system, provided a Java engine is installed. However, this has the inconvenience of making the tool slower and less efficient. The basic version of this product is open source and free; however, some features should be purchased separately.
