A strange creature’s equally strange journey

Peeb Adventures is a free 3D indie adventure video game wherein you must escape the clutches of a glitchy entity trying to change your world. Developed by Johnny a.k.a. Feverdream Johnny, this is a retro PS1-style platformer game that lets you enjoy nostalgic gameplay mechanics and graphics alongside surreal horror elements.

Peeb Adventures was created for the Haunted PS1 Demo Disk 2021 game jam—joining the ranks of An Outcry and Still Ridge. This demo features unique and vibrant locations that contain secret worlds and easter eggs. The game supports controllers and also offers accessibility settings.

Survive the glitches

In Peeb Adventures, you play as a small white creature that has a long nose as its trusty grappling hook. There’s no actual story to follow—you’re simply left to wander around, talk to NPCs as your guide, and unlock areas via puzzles. However, the further you go to explore, the more you encounter strange areas that hint at something sinister underneath all of this nostalgic PS1 innocence.

The in-game tutorial can be found in NPC dialogue so the controls are easy to grasp as soon as you start. Your main goal is to explore around with Peeb—solving puzzles and traversing tricky platforming obstacles by using your hook. It’s best to keep an eye when doing so as there are dozens of hidden passages and easter eggs you can find.

Gameplay-wise, using the hook for interacting with the world and objects is pretty fun and the numerous areas you go through will challenge you to think outside the box with it. Even simply swinging with it like Spiderman is satisfying—although you may encounter some issues with the movement input sensitivity when using an analog stick. The graphics are quite atmospheric with the surreal horror, too—portraying an unsettling world with secrets.

Both hilarious and horrifying

Overall, Peeb Adventures offers an interesting demo with the right amount of content to keep players excited and wanting more. There are some issues in controller support when it comes to movement control but other than that, the game performs well and really does give a complete nostalgic feeling to PS1 games—down to the creepy pixelated and low-poly characters. This is a highly recommended horror indie game to try out.
